TRAVEL ORGANIZATION : LIST OF ITEMS YOU CANT AFFORD TO FORGET WHEN PACKING FOR A TRIP

Have you ever been on a trip with big bags, in your mind you’ve packed all you need. One outfit for one day with shoes to match only to get to your destination, quickly want to shower then find out you didn’t come with your towel or sponge. I find nothing more annoying on a trip than that. There are four things i don't change easily especially if I can’t replace them with exactly what I want. They are my tooth brush, my sponge, towel and sanitary pads. These are the easiest to forget while packing. It’s most annoying when I’m constrained to buy products that I can find in my new location, which most times I don’t like.

Leaving out a little but useful item while packing could leave you disoriented at your destination and make you spend more than your budget, hence packing needs some patience and organization. Here are some items you must double check before leaving home.

 PACK YOUR MEDICATION

This is most important because it has to do with your health. More than half of the entire population of the world live on daily pills. It should be the last thing you consciously pack because beside the option of you having to cut into your budget to replace them, there is a possibility that you don’t even find the particular medicine in your new location and this is dangerous.

BRING A FIRST AID BAG ALONG

This doesn’t have to be a box. In the absence of a small bag, a zip lock can be used to pack a few first aid, over the counter medication for emergencies. Antibiotic ointment like Neosporin, Antibiotic solution such as hydrogen peroxide, hydrocortisone cream for itching, pain and fever medicines like paracetamol or ibuprofen, Antihistamine like Benadryl to treat allergies, Anti- diarrhea medicine like flagyl and tetracycline, Antacid to treat upset stomach, laxative to treat constipation and an Anti-inflammatory cream. Please make sure the patient is not allergic to these drugs and keep out of the reach of children.

GET YOUR TOILETRIES

These could include you tooth paste, brush, soap etc. and other personal hygiene products. Be sure to have them all to avoid allergies that could come from using unknown products.

INSECTICIDES

If you don’t react to them, then take a good one along. Mosquitoes are no respecters of men in Nigeria.

CHARGERS

Although it’s unlikely for you to forget your phones, tabs and lappy, it’s a lot easier to leave there chargers behind. To avoid buying sub -standard chargers on the way and endangering your devices, don’t forget the chargers of all gadgets you are traveling with.

ADAPTER

I have found this as important as having my chargers. Your room may not have enough sockets to charge your gadgets at once. An adapter comes in handy.

CLOTH ACCESSORIES

Belts, cuff links, ties etc. These little items if forgotten can crash a whole assemble. Please quadruple check.

TORCH LIGHT

Yes o, if you live in Nigeria you need this. There are variety of rechargeable ones in the market. Its actually better to have the lead battery powered ones (they don’t require charging). Even without electricity, you have a source of light. Imagine being in a new place with no light and you need to ease yourself at night.

POWER BANK
It’s like having a spare battery for phones. Keep it charged always.

COMFORTABLE FOOT WEAR

Pack at least one super comfortable foot wear. You would need it.

A SHAWL

The weather may seem hot but could change in a minute. If you wouldn’t like to carry a jacket, a thick shawl would serve. Just throw it around your neck.

BATHROOM SLIPPERS

They are so important. A fancy one can double as casual walk about footwear.

TOWEL

Except you don’t mind using the guest towel or buying one of those non-absorbent ones sold around, then you can’t afford to forget your towel. It’s best you get a suitable travel towel and tag it as that. Keep it away and reach for it only when you want to travel.

HAIR NET

I chose to put this last because besides protecting your hair, it could be the only item that would guarantee you a good night sleep by keeping your hair in place. A scarf could serve but nothing beats the good old “hair net”.

  2. Chai! Hair net very important. I remember one time I travelled to the village without my hair net. I wasn't comfortable even wen I used a scarf to tie my hair. Good write up onyi. Very important items.
